Ronald McDondald House Charity Auction

The beginnings of a painting I created with the help of two children whose family had need of the services the Ronald McDonald House provides...

Above we created the "background" painting using a water-based ink wash. That was July 1st of 2015. Then over the past two months I began the process of making it a John David Hull painting. I applied thin strokes of oil paint that matched the color of the ink wash. Oil I applied with some relief, like the way frosting on a cake has texture and body.

John and His Art

John creates big vibrant oil paintings. He paints on canvases that feel panoramic or widescreen, art that fills the peripheral of the viewer's eye. He paints with an intensity of layers and colors that interact and pop and play across the entire canvas.

John paints abstract because it's open to personal interpretation. It becomes about your memories, your experiences, your connections and how you relate to the art.

For John, as an artist, there is nothing better than when someone discovers a painting (and that painting finds a home). And especially when new discoveries are found repeatedly within the same painting over time.
